Cartogar, pioneer in El Carmen
Cartogar has opened its doors in the canton of El Carmen for the last year, hoping to position carton manufacturing, offering a variety of products including corrugated cardboard packaging and sheets combining different types, flute size and weight.
As explained the general manager of the company, Carlos Garay from a young age thought of this project, which with the help of his parents crystallized.
"My mother, Maria Barreto is from this canton, so I have been linked. The family business was always the export of banana, and we saw that there was a deficiency in the supply of cardboard, when I was very young, I just told my dad to put a cartonera and he told me when you are bigger and you can do the project we talked about, "Garay recalled.
His initiative was always to create a carton industry in El Carmen, so they started with several shareholders who were interested in the subject. "It is a profitable business and being the only ones in the province of Manabí we want to capture the market. It's a great opportunity we have and we're taking advantage of it. "
They supply the product on a national scale, but they are focused on the local market, in what is banana, malanga, yuca. "This area is quite productive. We are central in the country to be able to supply Manabi and the Sierra in the floricultural part and also what are regular boxes in the market. "
Procces
Carlos Garay explained that the process starts with the importation of raw material, because the country does not exist virgin fiber, "therefore we bring paper from abroad, especially from Europe, which is one of the best qualities in the world. We also buy national paper based on recycling, and all the waste that generates the processing of the cardboard is recycled again and paper is made to return obviously to the production process.
He said that once the material is in the plant enters the first process is the corrugation, in which several papers are assembled to make cardboard sheets, once the plates are made, they go on to the next process which is the punching and printing, "with that we give the form and obviously the design that each client requires".
The third process is complemented by the assembly, gluing and palletizing for the sale to the final customer. (LMM)

Being an industry they are focused on large quantities, but they work hand in hand with the converters, which are a bit smaller industries that sell them cardboard sheets and they take care of this market.
Family business
Although they have strategic partners, the business is managed in a familiar way, with Carlos working with his wife Marisol Salazar and their parents María Barreto and Carlos Garay, who is the president of the company.
Product
They make corrugated packaging and solutions, customized for all types of product according to the need and demand of each market. This initiative also generates sources of employment directly and indirectly.
